NIFT MUMBAI ORIENTATION PROGRAMME 2022

NIFT Mumbai organized a three days Orientation Program event to welcome its 333 new entrants who took admission in UG (Design/Tech) and PG (Design Research/ Fashion Management) courses. This event is scheduled from 3rd August to 5th August 2022 at NIFT Campus Kharghar. Orientation Program will introduce Foundation Programme students with the life at NIFT and will facilitate a smooth transition to their new life in the fashion world. The event also aims to help students adjust to the campus through a series of activities and sessions organized as part of the program.   

The Foundation program at NIFT is a two-semester program designed to nurture creativity, sensitivity, and skills. It develops conceptual creative thinking and creates awareness of the fashion business in the first-year students of Design and Technology. In this first year, a structured foundation program provides essential inputs on the dynamics of fashion to all students pursuing bachelor programs, i.e. B.Des. and B.F.Tech. It is designed to orient and sensitize students towards an understanding of the fundamentals of fashion business namely design, technology, and management from a socio-cultural perspective. The program’s focus is to build the base for future learning of the design and technology function. The Programme encourages students to explore their interests through a broad range of activities and courses. The students develop skills in specific areas to sharpen their strengths through engagement with lectures, workshops, and visits. Students study and explore various materials to enhance their basic understanding and appreciation of materials leading them to unique material manipulation and product development. Thus, Students observe and analyze the relationship between humans and their environment to understand the ethical values of co-existence and co-creation.

A three days orientation program is designed to give an insight into NIFT teaching pedagogy, values, rules and regulation, and the socio-education environment of the institute. Apart from it, motivational speeches by eminent speakers have been planned to motivate students to take the right path to success. 

Eminent Motivational Speaker Mr. Gangadharan Menon will talk about the topic ‘ Limitations are only in your head.’ Mr. Menon is a journalist, theatre actor, theatre director, film actor, documentary filmmaker, and academician. 

Life Skills Counsellor and Clinical psychologist Ms. Sashi Rekha Tallapragada will talk on the topic ‘Gender Sensitization.’ Advocate & Legal Counselor Ms.Janaki Karan Mahar will make students aware Anti-Ragging policies.

An alumni interaction has been planned for day 2, to motivate students in their career pathway. 

In Alumni interaction Mr. Shikhar Vaidya- Founder & Head of Product Development of Redesyn, 

Ms.Deepit Chugh-Founder, Owner, and Creative head of Menswear Designer Label, 

Mr. Uday Soni -Graphic Designer and Animator, 

Ms.Sumi Giriraj Borge- Textile Designer and Academician, 

Mr. Samoneh Dashti -Senior Manager Buying & Merchandising, French Connection Brand Marketing, India, 

Ms. Rashmi Shankar – Communication Designer, and 

Ms. Mrunal Deshmukh Information Designer and Accessory Designer will share their thoughts and experience with the students. 

Various hands-on workshops on Mithila painting, stain glass painting, upcycling and recycling, storytelling, creative calligraphy, wire jewelry, robotics, graffiti, paper folding,  sculpture and photography will be conducted for new students on 5th August 2022. 

The Robotics workshop will be conducted by Mr. Saurabh Srivastav Director of Duratech Projects, India. 

The storytelling workshop will be conducted by Ms. Deepmala Khera who conducts one-to-one expressive arts therapy sessions. 

Industrial Designer Laxmiprajakta J Rohekar will be conducting a stain glass painting workshop. 

Ms. Avantika Mathur, a Fine Artist and Academician, will be conducting a Graffity workshop. 

Mr. Jayesh D. Sarmalkar, an Interior Designer and Academician, will conduct a workshop on paper folding and sculpture. 

Mr. Nilesh Acharekar, who does editorial shoots for fashion magazines, will conduct a workshop on Photography. Ms. Pooja Sinha, a Fashion Designer and NIFT Alumna, will conduct the Mithila Painting workshop. 

Ms. Pooja has expertise in contemporizing traditional art. 

Mr. Shirsekar Siddhesh Sushil Sheetal, an Applied Artist and Academician, will conduct a creative calligraphy workshop. 

The Orientation Programme will conclude with a competition on the theme “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” where students will dress up inspired by their favourite freedom fighter.
