NIFT Mumbai Graduation Show 2024 Celebrates Creativity and Potential of Future Fashion Leaders

On May 31, 2024, NIFT Mumbai showcased the work of its graduating class at the NIFT Kharghar Campus. Renowned for its distinguished alumni in the fashion and lifestyle industry, NIFT Mumbai celebrated a graduating class of 307 students in 2024. The Graduation Show 2024 was inaugurated by esteemed guests including Shri. Rajagopal Chinraj (President, Suditi Industry Pvt. Ltd.), Shri. Murugan Thenkondar (President, Grasim Industries, Pulp and Fibre Business), Shri. Nishit Gupta (Director, The House of Textile & Kalki Fashion Ltd.), Prof. Dr. Pavan Godiawala (Director, NIFT Mumbai), and Prof. Dr. Sharmila Dua (Ex-Dean, NIFT).

The event was graced by the august presence of prominent figures from the design and fashion industry, Shri. Nelson Jaffery (Design Head, Birla Cellulose), Smt. Sunayna Singh (CEO, Skechers), Smt. Aarti Vijay Gupta (Founder & Designer, Aarti Vijay Gupta label), Shri. Naved Aslam (Indian Film, Television & Theatre Actor, and Script Writer), Smt. Shibani Dasgupta Jain (Founder, Baaya Design), Shri. Jitendra Bhatia (Country Manager, Apparel & Textiles, ASD Group), Shri. Rajesh Kumar (CEO Asha Handicrafts), Shri. Samar Goyal (Director, Shrivasaa Apparels Pvt. Ltd.), Smt. Neha Jain (Founder, Space of Joy), Shri. Sanjay Gupta (Owner, SG Enterprises), Smt. Richa Gautam (Creative Lead, Knits) and many more.

The Graduation Show served as a platform for graduating students to showcase their design collections. These collections explored diverse themes, ranging from narratives of longing and family dynamics to fantasies inspired by architecture and divine elements. Each collection reflected the students’ unique creativity and vision. Among the graduating class, Ms. Shraavya received the Meher Castelino Award for Innovative Garment Construction that Sets a New Trend for her collection titled “Ghosts of Time.” Ms. Priti Raut bagged the Usha International Award for Best Garment Construction for her design collection inspired by Calatrava’s architectural designs. Mr. Rishikesh Mahajan was presented with the prestigious Persis Khambatta Award for Excellence in Accomplishment, Scholarship, and Character. Mr. Akshat Aman from Fashion Communication department received the best poster award.

Prof. Dr. Pavan Godiawala, Director of NIFT Mumbai, highlighted the well-rounded education students receive at NIFT. He emphasized how the institute equips students with academic knowledge, industry exposure, team spirit, and professionalism, preparing them to seamlessly integrate into various roles within the fashion industry.  Professor Godiawala further mentioned the institute’s evolving pedagogy, incorporates an entrepreneurial focus encompassing not only design, management, and technology but also emerging areas like financial services, digital currency, metaverse, and digital education. This comprehensive approach aims to empower graduates not just as employees but as potential future business owners and innovators.

Established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles of the Government of India, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a pioneering institute of fashion education in the country. NIFT Mumbai, one of the most esteemed design institutions in India, is known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, highly qualified faculty, and strong industry connections. The Graduation Show 2024 marked a significant milestone for the graduating class of 2024, signifying the culmination of their academic journey and their potential to influence the future of fashion. The event was witnessed by proud parents, friends, and members of the fashion fraternity.
