Of the 300 students taking part in the competition organised by the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) in Taiwan, 23 were shortlisted to make final samples.

Organised by the LHCA in partnership with the Taiwan International Leather Association (TILA), the competition in Taiwan has attracted more than 300 entries from students from 15 selected universities in the country. In June, the 23 student designs from four design categories shortlisted by a line-up of judges were requested to make final product samples featuring U.S. hide and leather as the main material for the competition’s final stage. After an online voting on Facebook August 10 – 31, the judge panel is to choose an overall winner on September 7, and an awards ceremony is scheduled on the following day. Taiwanese tanneries having collaborated with materials for the students include Tyche Leather Industrial, Wei Tai Leather, Shan Been Jeou Industrial, Lien Shun Yang Leather, and Ligo Leather Enterprise.
