UK leather manufacturer Scottish Leather Group will open a new factory in Renfrewshire by autumn next year, creating 100 jobs. The new factory of the company, which has facilities in Bridge of Weir, Paisley and Glasgow, will provide high-end car seat upholstery. The development is part of a strategy by Renfrewshire business leaders to boost the local economy.
The strategy, which set out aims for the next 10 years, include adding 9,000 jobs to the local economy and boosting the value of goods and services in the area by £400 million in a year, according to British media reports.
Business leaders also want to expand Renfrewshire’s manufacturing sector by 30 per cent, grow the working-age population by 5,000 people and reduce economic inactivity by 15 per cent.
