According to a statement from Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA), China’s customs authorities have begun requesting that imports of hides, skin and leather products from the US to arrive with formal assurances that products are free of covid-19.

The assurances customs are asking for include statements confirming that no workers in the facility where the imported products came from were sick with covid-19 at the time of production and that the packaging of the product does not contain the virus.

LHCA said the US government continues to discourage companies from including any document related to covid-19, but it said some companies are attempting to send the requested reassurances with shipments to China.
