Modern Meadow, an innovator in sustainable biomaterials, has teamed up with Australian carry brand Bellroy in a new partnership to produce eco-conscious accessories. Bellroy will incorporate INNOVERA™, a next-gen biomaterial developed by Modern Meadow, into a selection of its carry products.

Formerly known as BIO-VERA®, INNOVERA™ mimics the texture and resilience of traditional leather by combining plant-based proteins, biopolymers, and post-consumer waste. With over 80% renewable carbon content, this animal-free material aligns with conventional manufacturing and is both lightweight and twice as strong as leather. Available in multiple textures and finishes, it’s tailored for performance and sustainability.

“We create biomaterials that help companies like Bellroy bring high-quality, sustainable products to market,” said David Williamson, PhD, CEO of Modern Meadow. “By incorporating INNOVERA™ into accessories, Bellroy can offer carry products that are beautiful, functional and better for the planet. Given its durability, INNOVERA™ is particularly well-suited for high-wear applications.”

Bellroy, a certified B Corporation, has a long-standing commitment to sustainability, using materials sourced from recycled plastics, industrial waste, and reclaimed fishing nets. The company’s ethical framework considers environmental and social responsibility equally.

“We’re committed to supporting materials that have potential to solve very real environmental issues, without causing negative impacts elsewhere,” said Bellroy co-founder Andy Fallshaw. “We believe INNOVERA™ helps mitigate important waste streams and exceeds traditional leathers in many tangible performance aspects. From improved durability to highly tunable aesthetic and tactile traits, we’re excited to bring this compelling material to customers worldwide.”

The first INNOVERA™-based Bellroy products are expected to debut in the second half of 2025. Consumers can register for updates at bellroy.com/innovera.
