MULUNGUSHI TEXTILES JOINT VENTURE RECEIVES $153 MILLION

Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles Joint Venture – ZMCT/JV – has received 153 million US dollars from its Chinese partner to replace part of its machinery at the Kabwe textile plant.
ZMCT-JV General Manager Brigadier General MICHAEL PHIRI made the announcement today in Kapiri during the Central Province Provincial Chiefs Council meeting.
He claims that once operational, the Zambia China Mulungushi Joint Venture will employ 2000 young people in its ginnery department.
General PHIRI stated that the textile industry will initially employ equipment from the old ginnery, which he stated will be replaced once the new machinery arrives in the country.
He stated that plans to acquire new equipment are already in the works, and that once the machinery arrives in the nation, the textile industry will employ 2000 young people.
Earlier, Chisamba Chief CHAMUKA stated that he wants confirmation that the Company will open before directing his people to begin cultivating cotton.
Chief SHAIBILA also urged the Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles Joint Venture to consider diversification and value addition.
