Syed Fakhar Imam, Minister of National Food Security and Research, stated that high-quality cotton seeds are needed to increase agricultural yield in the country.
The minister stated during the opening of the Cotton Productivity Enhancement Programme on Tuesday that the cotton crop has suffered greatly in recent years owing to climate change and use of substandard seeds.
According to Pakistan’s agricultural minister, cotton output has dropped from more than 12 million bales a decade ago to approximately 7 million now. He believed that collaborating with the United States to create high-quality cotton seeds would help Pakistan increase crop production. Dr. Azeem Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), indicated that several new seed types will be accessible in a few years.
