Over 60 million workers around the world could benefit from a new code of practice on occupational safety and health (OSH) in the textiles, clothing, leather and footwear industries.

This new code, based on international labour standards and other sectoral guidelines, has been adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) which says it is the first of its kind for the industries.

It is not legally binding but was drawn up by experts representing governments, employers and workers. It offers practical advice for all those with responsibilities and duties for safety and health issues in textiles, clothing, leather and footwear manufacturing.
