The Textiles and Apparel Program at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has been awarded a $100,000 grant from The Gap and its partner, Icon 360, a non-profit subsidiary of Harlem’s Fashion Row.
Icon 360 has given a $10,000 grant to NCCU’s Textiles and Apparel Program. The grant will be utilised to upgrade the textiles lab’s infrastructure, technology, and equipment. Students enrolled in the programme will also be eligible for two scholarships. Icon 360 was founded in 2020 to assist creators of colour affected by the coronavirus epidemic.
Earlier this year, NCCU conducted its annual fashion design competition, in which 11 students participated in a catwalk presentation presenting original creations. Spoonflower and Implus, two Triangle textile firms, gave students with materials like as bespoke cotton fabrics and shoestring for their creations. NCCU is a partner in the Closing the Gap project, which offers funding to ten fashion programmes at HBCUs.
