Recently, the TVC Media Team had the privilege to talk with the company’s Managing Directors Mr. Vishal Patel and Mr. Alkesh Gangani.
Coming from a cotton background, what inspired you to set up a spinning mill?
Gujarat is a state where almost 30% of the cotton grown in India is cultivated here and hence being a ginner ourselves, the next logical thing for us to progress further up the textile supply chain was to have a spinning factory. The variety of cotton grown in Gujarat known as Shankar-6, is well known around the world for its superior cotton characteristics. So having good quality cotton availability is also a big advantage for us.
What products do you manufacture and export?
We produce 100% cotton Ring Spun yarns with counts ranging from 16/1 to 40/1, mainly combed compact and carded yarns for knitting and weaving applications. We can also provide sustainable yarns like BCI and ORGANIC. Today our yarn production capacity is almost 100 mt per day. The company is also awarded as STAR EXPORT HOUSE by the Government of India. We are exporting to many countries, altogether around 20 countries as of now.
Yarn Spinning and Exports being a very competitive market, how do you distinguish your products?
Quality is our ultimate paradigm. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing unit is well-complemented by technical professionals who ensure that the yarn produced is of superior quality. We have enforced strict internal quality assessment protocols to ensure that the yarn produced matches our expectations. The yarn we supply is superior and consistent in quality. We started exporting yarns in 2016 and even today we are glad that our clients associate our brand “NIVA” with superior quality. Within the group, we have our own ginning factories which help us to procure superior quality cotton from farmers which in turn helps us to produce consistent quality yarns. We are also promoting more sustainable yarns like BCI and ORGANIC.
Currently, the industry is facing difficulties and challenges. What are your views?
Yes, since the last 2 years, there has been a tough period going on in the textile industry not only in India but the world over. China, which used to buy cotton yarn in bulk quantities is not the same anymore. Exports to China have reduced quite a lot. International cotton prices are coming down, whereas Indian cotton prices are quite firm. On top of that container freights have increased a lot. All this is making our yarn less competitive in the international markets and spinning mills are also facing a tough time. Having said that, India is a hub for the cotton spinning industry and will remain so. We hope that once the world economy starts recovering, we will have our good days back.
