In a remarkable display of creativity and sustainability, Kvadrat ReThink made its debut at the renowned 3 Days of Design event, marking the Danish textile authority’s sixth foray into the world of design and textiles in collaboration with global creatives. Curated by a team of esteemed figures including Jeffrey Bernett, Anniina Koivu, Johanna Agerman Ross, Jane Withers, and Njusja de Gier, the ReThink project featured the works of 12 designers, a mix of emerging talents and established names.

These designers were given free rein to push the boundaries of material exploration, with a focus on innovative approaches to sustainable design. The resulting projects showcased a diverse range of creative interpretations, from using recycled textiles to incorporating renewable and natural materials, as well as exploring circular design concepts. Collaborating with local communities for inspiration, the designers crafted a collection that not only challenged traditional notions of textile use but also highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability.

Among the standout projects was the Augmented Curtain by Christophe Guberan and Camille Blin, which utilised 3D weaving technology to create a curtain with insulating properties. Patricia Urquiola’s giant octopus sculpture made from recycled ocean plastic and Fernando Laposse’s rocking bench inspired by traditional Mexican practices added a touch of whimsy to the collection.

Meanwhile, the involvement of Venezuelan children in creating skateboards from end-of-life textiles emphasised the project’s commitment to education and community engagement.

Each project in the ReThink exhibition exemplified a unique approach to sustainable design, reflecting the designers’ diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Njusja de Gier, Kvadrat’s senior vice president of marketing and digital, praised the participants for their passion and ingenuity in translating sustainability principles into artistry and innovation.

The ReThink exhibit truly captured the essence of sustainability through a harmonious blend of creativity, technology, and community engagement, setting a new standard for sustainable design practices in the industry.
