Khadi is no more a dreary, drab cloth reserved for the wardrobes of politicians. A fashion exhibition hosted by the Khadi Gramodyog Board as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate India’s 75th year of independence highlighted the usage of Khadi in traditional, contemporary, and celebratory attire.
The models on Thursday night showcased new information about Khadi silk, from lehengas to western clothing and casual wear. Several well-known Indian designers participated, including Ritu Beri, Farah Ansari, Asma Husain, Aditi Rastogi, and Himmat Singh. Gaurav Gaur supervised the fashion show, which featured outfits such as lehengas, kurtis, kurta sleepers, and partywear.

Lucknow’s chikankari and silk artisans also participated in the event. The centrepiece of the exhibition was a wedding collection in Khadi. “The event was founded on the concept ‘Khadi for nation, Khadi for fashion,’ and the fabric for all garments was donated by the Khadi Gramodyog Board,” a representative said.
