The INEOS company was named a finalist for its bio-attribution method for using renewable fuel in its petrochemical plants, which was developed in collaboration with the INEOS Group and Scandinavian bio-refineries.
Using this strategy, the business has taken efforts to replace fossil feedstock with renewable feedstock in order to manufacture Styrolux® ECO and Styroflex® ECO, the world’s first speciality grades produced from kitchen waste and wood waste, respectively. As a result, neither food nor land use are threatened by this feedstock. This technology minimises CO2 emissions while maintaining product technical, quality, and legal qualities without requiring changes to specifications or manufacturing procedures. The feedstock sources, supply chain, and manufacturing methods have been recognized to meet the highest sustainability certification criteria by the Roundtable for Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) and the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC).

This is the second year in a row that INEOS Styrolution has been named a finalist in the Chemical Week Sustainability Awards. The organization was designated a finalist in the category of “Best Sustainability Initiative” in 2020. “It is an enormous honour to be acknowledged for our initiatives to minimize our usage of fossil fuel input as well as our greenhouse gas emissions,” says Mark Beitz, Head of Sustainability, R&D & Regulatory at INEOS Styrolution. Our goal is to expand this attribution technique to additional places in order to use more renewable and recyclable raw materials into our goods.”
The winners of the Sustainability Awards will be announced on November 18, 2021, at Chemical Week’s Financial Outlook & Sustainability Forum.
