YKK, a maker of fastening solutions, has entered into a licence deal with US inventor Green Theme Technologies (GTT) and will begin employing the company’s Empel water protection treatment throughout its line of sustainably manufactured zippers.
YKK Global Marketing Group, located in Tokyo, has raised US$3.5 million in a recent series B funding round. The company’s strategy is guided by its overall Sustainability Vision 2050, a primary goal of which is to minimise water and chemical consumption through the use of innovative technologies. GTT’s Empel treatment is one such option, and it is expected to play a larger part in meeting the industry’s sustainability goals.
YKK has collaborated with Green Theme Technologies to create a new water repellent and protection technology. GTT’s Empel technology provides very long-lasting water protection with unrivalled performance, all without the use of hazardous chemicals. YKK is one of the world’s major textile factories and apparel companies. The assistance comes at a vital juncture at which large apparel companies must step up to make a difference for the planet’s future.
