Vocal for local

On this heritage occasion of national hand-loom day, honorable prime minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani and celebrities took to social media promoting the message of “vocal for local”. The message promotes and celebrates handmade products to inspire the country choose clothing made by Indian brands.

This day in particular is celebrated on 7th august as an honour to the handloom weavers in the country and also highlight India’s handloom industry. This is the day which has it massive enlightenment on the contribution of handlooms to the socio-economic development of the country and also increase the income of weavers.

Honorable Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani has micro-blogging site and said, “National Hand loom Day instituted on 7th August 2015 is a tribute to Swadeshi movement which was launched on the same date in 1905. Our ancestors fought for ‘Swaraj’, let us contribute towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and support #Vocal4Handmade.” According to one of the tweets of Mrs Smriti Irani “National Handloom Day is the day to commemorate India’s rich & diverse handloom and acknowledge contribution of weavers in conserving our heritage”.
