Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have agreed to continue working together on sustainable development goals (SDGs) reporting by the country’s readymade garment (RMG) sector.
A report on Bangladesh’s National Priority Indicators and Sustainable Development Goals was released by UNDP and BGMEA. The study covers the sustainability activities of 47 member factories that completed sustainability self-reporting and translated their effect into NPIs and SDGs terminology. On Thursday, a UNDP delegation led by Khurshid Alam, Assistant Resident Representative, met with President Faruque Hassan in his office. They reviewed the association’s broad sustainability goals and agreed to assess the sector’s effect on SDG attainment.
The Bangladesh government, UNDP, UN Women, and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) met in Dhaka to review the country’s disaster response strategy. The National Response Partnership (NRP) is a collaboration that intends to provide strategic assistance to national capacity development in order to keep up with the changing nature of disasters. Miran Ali, Vice President of the BGMEA, and Director Abdullah Hil Rakib attended the meeting.
