The state government plans to cover 12.5 lakh hectares of agricultural land under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in the kharif-2021 crop season to protect farmers from crop loss due to natural disasters.
The State government has asked all loanee and non-loanee farmers to complete the formalities by July 31, 2021, which is the cut-off date for online enrolling for crop insurance with the NCIP portal, common service centres (CSC), insurance providers, and banks.
The crop insurance plan would cover eight recognised crops – paddy, groundnut, cotton, turmeric, ginger, red gramme, maize, and ragi – for the kharif season, while nine crops – paddy, green gramme, block gramme, groundnut, mustard, sunflower, potato, onion, and sugarcane – for the rabi season.
Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo launched the Crop Insurance Awareness Campaign for PMFBY during Crop Insurance Week here on July 1, 2021, by flagging off two IEC vans that would continue to educate farmers on the PMFBY throughout the crop insurance week. The two vans will drive to ten backward blocks and ten aspirational districts in the state, where crop insurance coverage is low.
