Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to increase bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion following a meeting of the Uzbek-Turkmen intergovernmental commission in Tashkent, according to the Uzbek ministry of investments and foreign trade. They also agreed to speed up the approval of the draught agreement on the establishment and regulation of border trade zones.
The discussions included a wide variety of cooperative problems, including investment, trade and economic, industrial, energy, agricultural, water management, scientific and technical, transportation and transit, and cultural and humanitarian domains.
Bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan has increased by 20 per cent in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, Uzbekistan’s trade ministry says. The countries have also agreed to intensify the development of new joint projects to create agro-industrial complexes, textile, leather and footwear industries and production of cars.
