According to Shana, Iran’s Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) has begun building a large petrochemical complex in the Mahshahr area of southern Iran.
Senior Petrochemical authorities, including PGPIC Managing Director Jafar Rabiei and the project’s managing director Mehdi Gharouni, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mahshahr petrochemical complex. The project will be carried out in two stages, the first of which will comprise the building of the olefin unit, as well as five necessary storage tanks and cooling towers. When finished, it will give direct employment possibilities for 5,000 people.
“Persian Gulf Holding feels a responsibility to undertake new large-scale projects for growing the petrochemical sector,” said Petrochemical Minister Rabiei. The Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone in Iran’s southern Khuzestan Province is one of the country’s largest petrochemical zones.
In July 2019, the managing director of Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) revealed a proposal for the development of a new mega-complex.
