Having more than 1,000 handloom weaver societies, the Tamil Nadu handloom weavers’ cooperative society Co-optex is planning organic wear for children and is scouting for international buyers.
It is also planning to target the high-income groups and urbanites.
These products will be available in the market either during Diwali or Pongal depending on the certification it gets.
R. Gandhi, Minister for Textiles and Handlooms, Tamil Nadu told media, “Co-optex is planning to make organic garments for children. We are also making efforts to promote Khadi products amongst the young generation as well as amongst the Government employees.”
Notably, countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Middle East will be on priority to tap. The Indian diaspora in these countries, as well as the local populace, will be targeted in a high voltage campaign in the near future.
The department is in the process of getting certification for its organic products as the international market requires proper certification. It is trying to bring in customers from all the age groups and is in the process of preparing more organic dyed products.
As per the initial planning, the raw materials for the organic garments will be sourced from Pollachi and nearby areas.
It is pertinent to mention here that organic kidswear is one of the most preferred product categories in international market.
