In the wake of coronavirus, and China being considered as the parent country, India and US are taking steps forward to avoid any more future disruptions which may be caused by China.

INDIA:

India has made visa rules stricter for 33 countries which includes China and Chinese Nationals. Doing this has bought China on par with Prior Referral categories such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Reporting to Foreigners Regional Registration office (FRRO) and the introduction of “specific provisions for Chinese nationals” are the latest guidelines which were included in the grant of business visas.

The main change made is that Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Afghanistan are the nationals which cannot be granted multi-entry tourist visas for a 5-year period as a default option. According to the directions on multiple tourist visas, ““For Bangladesh and China, provisions as available in the bilateral agreements, policy guidelines, as issued from time to time, will be applicable… There shall be a gap of at least two months between two visits to India on a tourist visa in respect of nationals of Afghanistan, China, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistan origin and stateless persons.”

The 2nd category is a 6-day single entry visa for Chinese nationals who cannot produce any invitation letter from a recognized Indian organization but has a letter of request from a duly authorized Chinese organization.

The 3rd category is short term, single entry B-visa not exceeding 60 days for Chinese nationals who cannot produce any documentary proof and cleared by Indian missions abroad.

USA:

Trump has made an effort to restrict students coming from Beijing with the purpose of using students and researchers to steal intellectual property, technology and other sensitive information. A State department Spokesperson said that, “As of September 8, 2020, the Department has revoked more than 1,000 visas of PRC [People’s Republic of China] nationals who were found to be subject to Presidential Proclamation 10043 and therefore ineligible for a visa.”

On June 1, the US had begun an implementation which included a presidential measure to restrict the entry of Chinese graduate student and researchers with ties to China’s military.
