Sri Lanka – Production at Eravur Fabric Processing Park expected to begin in a year

Colombo – Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said manufacturing at the Eravur Fabric Processing Park would begin within a year.
According to the Minister, he has directed the Board of Investment to take prompt action in this respect.
The government intends to build a garment industrial park on a 265-acre plot of land in the Eravur Punnakuda region. Minister Ranatunga recently visited Batticaloa to see the progress of the Fabric Processing Park. According to the Board of Investment, this export processing zone will generate around 5,000 direct and a huge number of indirect job possibilities.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga of Sri Lanka stated that the garment sector contributes for 44 percent of the country’s overall export revenues. Sri Lanka spends around $ 2.8 billion per year on textile and raw material imports for the textile sector. The government is investing Rs. 5 billion in the establishment of this textile manufacturing park.
