Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said traditional and small industries have the potential to help India achieve the target of becoming a five trillion dollar economy.

“Our nation never had dearth of skill and resources, but what is needed most is a broad vision,” the PM said while inaugurating the One District One Product (ODOP) exhibition organised by UP Institute of Design at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre in Bada Lalpur area.

Appreciating the ODOP scheme of the Yogi Adityanath government for the manner in which it has benefitted traditional artisans, manufacturers and traders, the PM said export was growing in UP for two years.

“It is heartening to note that the Yogi government is directly assisting small and medium traders and manufacturers under ODOP campaign,” the PM said.

“We have been making efforts in this direction for five years. Before 2014, there was no online platform for weavers and exporters to communicate with investors. We can’t say that the previous governments did not have fund or vision but it is a question of approach,” Modi said.

“In this year’s Union Budget, a roadmap has been laid for the development of small and medium scale industries. As the textile industry plays a big role in generating employment, provision has been made in the budget to give a new dimension to textile industry,” he said.

“India has pledged to get rid of single-use plastic by 2022. When the entire world is trying to find a substitute to plastic, we can offer our environment-friendly solutions. There is a need to make our ancient tradition suitable to the needs of the 21st The PM also distributed special kits to artisans.

Governor Anandiben Patel, CM Yogi Adityanath, MSME minister Sidharth Nath Singhwere also present on the occasion.
