Meeting held on 10.07.2021 of Shri. Piyush Goyal ji, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles & Smt. Darshana Vikram Jardosh ji, Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles with PDEXCIL and other textile EPCs.
Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Textile chaired a meeting with various Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) at the Office of the Textile Commissioner, Mumbai to review the various schemes under textile sector. Smt. Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles were also present during the meeting.
Shri Vishwanath R. Agarwal, Vice-Chairman, Shri Sunil Satgonda Patil, Immediate Past Chairman, Shri Mahesh N. Sanil, Executive Director, PDEXCIL attended the said meeting.
The Minister took review of the various schemes/activities implemented/undertaken by the Office of the Textile Commissioner, Textiles Committee, Cotton Corporation of India Ltd, Export Promotion Councils and Textile Research Organizations. The meeting focused on MSMEs and need for developing special models to support small players.
Addressing the EPCs, Shri Piyush Goyal urged stakeholders to double exports across the board from all export promotion councils. While reviewing the activities of export promotion councils, the Minister of Textiles suggested broad based industry interaction for developing country oriented comprehensive trade agreement. Also, develop Financial Instruments to have backstopping to industry, which are not subsidy focused and enable stable credit flow from banks through such a guarantee. The minister also emphasized the need for development of futuristic value-added products and its exhibition.
Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) has been working towards its objective of developing the powerloom industry and promoting export of its products. Textiles sector is the biggest employer as well as the biggest exporter. Executive Director, PDEXCIL, Shri Mahesh N. Sanil made a presentation about the various activities carried out by PDEXCIL, powerloom sectors strength, weakness & suggestions. The Minister gave a patient hearing and suggested ways and methods how we can double our exports and also how small MSMEs can be boosted by way of innovative ideas.
