According to Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy, who recently met with Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) president Mohammad Jashim Uddin, Moscow is eager to strengthen trade ties with Dhaka. According to Jashim Uddin, the bilateral trade potential is not being fully realised due to a lack of direct banking relationships and letter of credit opening facilities.
Aside from readymade clothes, Bangladesh may export a range of products to Russia, including light technical products, plastic, medications, and frozen food, according to Jashim Uddin. In November, a Russian trade representative will visit Bangladesh. According to Bangla media sources, the ambassador offered to hold a trade meeting with the FBCCI during his visit.
In December 1987, the FBCCI inked a cooperation agreement with the then-Soviet Union. Later that year, in 2006, the apex trade group inked a cooperation agreement with the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and in 2019, with the Union of Moscow Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The FBCCI president and the Russian ambassador decided to revisit the long-ago accords.
