Resetting and reimagining the innovation agenda for the textile-apparel industry, which employs about 4.5-5 crore people in India, is the need of the hour, as per Darlie O Koshy, chairman, North India Section of Textile Institute (NISTI). The industry needs to grab opportunities in sustainable textiles, fashion industry, MMF and technical textile.

If the textiles industry can use the lens of fashion and lifestyle, everything can change with a new perspective, Koshy, the former DG & CEO of the Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC).

He is of the opinion that “even the ministry will have to be recast as ministry for fashion and creative industries instead of the boring ministry of textiles or small and medium industries. These are obsolete nomenclature like the job profiles.”
