Largest online store Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Karnataka Micro, Small, and Medium enterprises department with a view to foster state’s art, craft, and handloom sector by proposing them market access through an E-Commerce platform. The state product will be sold to the Pan-India customer base due to the alliance.
The partnership will see renowned brands like Cauvery of the Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation and Priyadarshini Handlooms, part of Karnataka Handlooms Development Corporation, joining the Samarth program, according to a Flipkart press release.
The promotion will be part of the Flipkart Samarth venture, which seeks to break entry barriers for artisans by extending time-bound incubation support, including benefits in the form of onboarding, free cataloging, marketing, account management, business insights, and warehousing support.
Flipkart Samarth works closely with non-governmental organizations, government bodies and livelihood missions to reach a large number of rural entrepreneurs, with a special focus on women-led enterprises, differently-abled entrepreneurs, artisans, and weavers, who often face obstacles like lack of access to working capital, poor infrastructure, and inadequate training.
