Ludhiana’s garment industry is finally hopeful as many states across India are giving or planning to give relaxations in lockdown.

Known for winterwear and knitted products like T-shirts, lowers, etc., Ludhiana is one of the leading apparel manufacturing hubs that have organised companies, top and mid-level brands as well as unorganised industry.
“Maharashtra has relaxed lockdown curbs slightly in several cities from Tuesday, while Uttar Pradesh too is lifting day curfew from districts having less than 600 coronavirus cases. Rajasthan has also announced that it will ease the restrictions from Wednesday at some places. Though these states are not going to open up entirely this week but the unlocking has started and several business activities will start right away,” said Vinod Thapar, Chairman, Knitwear Club.

He also added “This is a good sign for garment factories of Ludhiana. We are assuming that in next 7-10 days the movement of goods will start though it is not going to return back to normal as of now but still something is better than nothing.”

It is also pertinent to mention here that still there are many consignments on the way from last few weeks and now these goods will be delivered to the wholesalers and retailers.

The industry is optimistic because once the market opens, they will not only get fresh orders, but their old payments will also be cleared.
