In view of the negative growth of the apparel sector, the South India Garments Manufacturer & Wholesalers Association Karnataka has urged the government to remove higher slab of 12 per cent GST and fix 5 per cent GST on all transaction value. Currently, all types of apparel and clothing of sale value exceeding Rs. 1,000 per piece attract 12 per cent GST. The association has also urged the GST Council for simplification of maintenance and submission of records under GST, according to AnuragSinghla, vice president of the Bangalore-based association.

It has also sought increase in limit of e-way bill to one lakh, and requested addressing mismatch of GST payment between supplier and buyer. The South India Garment Association (SIGA) has also initiated and submitted detailed discussion and presentation on GST to the ministry of commerce.
