The global trade of woven fabrics made of metal thread and metallised yarn has shown a wide fluctuation in recent years and firmed to slightly higher in 2018 from 2016 with a growth rate of 1.34 per cent, according to data from TexPro. In terms of value, the global trade was $189.34 million in 2015, which increased to $191.88 million in 2018.
The total trade of woven fabrics made of metal thread and metallised yarn declined by 4.25 per cent in 2018 over the previous year and is anticipated to reach $201.21 million in 2021 with a CAGR of 0.67 per cent from 2018, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market analysis tool TexPro.
In terms of value, the global exports of woven fabrics made of metal thread and metallised yarn was $97.81 million in 2016, which declined slightly by 1.60 per cent to $96.25 million in 2018. Total exports moved down by 7.66 per cent in 2018 over the previous year and is expected to reach $99.07 million in 2021 with a growth rate of 2.93 per cent from 2018.
In terms of volume, the global exports of woven fabrics made of metal thread and metallised yarn was 11.18 thousand tonnes in 2016, which rose by 119.25 per cent to 24.52 thousand tonnes in 2018. Total export in 2018 dropped by 63.65 per cent in 2018 over total export in 2017. It is expected to increase to 79.60 thousand tonnes in 2021 with a CAGR of 48.07 per cent from 2018.
In 2018, China (22,556.35 tonnes), Malaysia (276.28 tonnes), Iran (234.84 tonnes), Slovakia (205.25 tonnes) and the UK (150.13 tonnes) were the key exporters of woven fabrics made of metal thread and metallised yarn across the globe, together comprising 95.53 per cent of total exports. These were distantly followed by the Netherlands (141.87 tonnes), India (122.74 tonnes), France (115.01 tonnes), the US (106.27 tonnes) and Germany (83.69 tonnes).
From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the Malaysia (1020.67 per cent).
In value terms, Germany ($18.66 million), China ($8.86 million), Canada ($8.32 million), Italy ($6.47 million), the UK ($6.29 million) and France ($5.49 million) were the key exporters of woven fabrics made of metal thread and metallised yarn across the globe in 2018, together comprising 56.20 per cent of total export. These were followed by the US ($5.23 million), Austria ($4.42 million), Finland ($3.44 million) and Slovakia ($3.38 million). From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by China (44.41 per cent) and Italy (24.92 per cent).
