Exporters have asked the government to review the possible impact of deadly Coronavirus on trade as China is one of the top trading partners for India.

India’s exports to China in the April-November period were $11.5 billion while imports were $49 billion.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) said if the problem persists for long, it may impact domestic mobile manufacturers as they import certain components from China.

“Mobile exporters may face issues if the problem will continue for long as they import a lot of components from the neighboring country,” said FIEO director general Ajay Sahai.

Indian exporters have received inquiries from Hong Kong and China for the import of surgical masks. Exporters said there is a need for around 2 million masks and the Indian mission in Hong Kong has sought a list of manufacturers in India who can provide these masks. “We urged the government to review the possible impact of deadly Coronavirus on trade as well,” the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India said in a statement.
