In March imports of Japanese textiles and clothes dropped by 2 percent year-on-year, to 216.500 tonnes, according to the latest data provided by CCF Group Trackers. Of these, Chinese imports decreased 4% to 105,300 tonnes.

Japanesetextiles and clothing imports in the first quarter totalled 605.000 tons down 7.5% year on year; China’s amount stood at 286.000 tonnes.

In the first quarter of 2020, the demand for imports of Japanese textiles and apparel decreased sharply and China’s volume declined more than the total. The accelerating outbreak has had a major impact on the global textile and apparel industry. While the pandemic in China has been controlled and the mills have gradually returned to work, the epidemic outside China has caused global consumption and trade to suffer comparatively.

From the standpoint of share in the import industry, the proportion of China on the Japanese textiles and apparel markets has steadily decreased over the last few years and the proportion of China imports has fallen to 47.2 per cent.
