Kidswear is one of the growing export product categories from India and the growth has been significant over a couple of years. However, 2021 has not been good so far for the Indian kidswear shipment, mainly because of substantial drop in woven segment of kids’ garments.

According to data available on the portal of Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India), the country clocked US $ 436.59 million from its kidswear export during Q1 ’21, noting 6.11 per cent yearly decline.

The knit category continued performing well as it grew by 14.58 per cent to hit US $ 243.72 million export revenues, while the shipment of woven kidswear sunk drastically by 23.55 per cent to accommodate US $ 192.87 million in Q1 ’21, down from US $ 252.27 million in Q1 ’20.

Particularly in March ’21, both knit and woven kidswear products remained positive and the collective export grew by 18.06 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to US $ 142.95 million.

Amongst top 5 destinations of Indian kidswear, USA, UAE and France noted growth during Q1 ’21, while destinations such as UK and Germany saw reduced sourcing from India.
