Darshna Jardosh, Union Minister, lays the groundwork for an apparel and garment unit at Kokrajhar

Darshna Vikram Jardosh, Minister of State for Textiles and Petroleum, Government of India, visited Kokrajhar on Thursday and laid the foundation stone of the ‘Apparel and Garment Unit’ under the Soil to Silk project, NERTPS at Bodoland Silk Park, Adabari, Kokrajhar in the presence of Daobaisa Boro, Executive Member (EM), Sericulture, BTR; Dhananjay Basumat
The Union Minister of State visited the training centre, cocoon bank, silk printing and processing facilities and silk museum in the Bodoland Silk Park. She interacted with entrepreneurs, weavers and other beneficiaries and encouraged them to produce diversified products having export qualities. An interactive session was held on behalf of Directorate of Sericulture, BTR; the EM submitted a new project concept note on Bodoland Eri Mission for an amount of Rs. 100 crore (approx) for developing 6,000 acres of tapioca plantation.
She emphasized the need for more training infrastructures and modernization of the weaving sector in the region. She advised all the stakeholders to improve the socio-economic condition of the stakeholders through implementation of various developmental schemes in true spirit. Dr. Jogesh Deuri, Director (retired), Department of Sericulture, BTR, explained various programmes being implemented in BTR from soil to silk. He also informed that CSB had trained few farmers and State Government officials of Gujarat to take up Eri culture in the State recently.
