BGMEA INSISTED THAT THE PUBLIC TEXTILE MILL BE RE-OPENED

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have encouraged Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) to resurrect state-owned textile factories via public-private partnerships (PPP). The BGMEA stated that reopening the closed mills will assist meet the increased demand for local yarn and fabrics in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.

The meeting took place earlier during BTMC chairman Brigadier General Md Zakir Hossain paid a courtesy call on BGMEA president Faruque Hassan to intersection point’s problems pertaining the apparel and textile industry.

According to Hassan, demand for domestic fabric and yarn is increasing in Bangladesh’s RMG business. Furthermore, the RMG sector is increasingly focusing on garment products made from non-cotton fibre, which could be provided by local textile mills, according to a press release from the BGMEA.

Furthermore, Hassan believes that revitalising the failing mills will create more job opportunities in the country.
