Bangladesh’s leather export conveys increase

International demand has resulted in record growth for exports in May, with a rebound in readymade garment (RMG) shipments and notable increases in leather and leather goods exports.

Bangladesh’s exports totaled $35.2 billion in the first 11 months of the fiscal year 2020-2021, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). In the first 11 months of the 2020-21 fiscal year, income from readymade garments increased by 11.1 percent to US$28.6 billion, accounting for 84 percent of total national exports.

In addition to RMG, leather and leather goods increased 14.43 percent to US$846.1 million. Furthermore, agricultural products increased by 16.13 percent to US$906 million.

Bangladesh’s export earnings in the previous fiscal year 2019-20 fell by about 17% to $33.7 billion.
