Bangladesh is committed to revive the lost glory of Muslin, according to textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi Bir Protik, who recently said the government has already taken measures to commercially produce Muslin so that all stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, can be fully informed about the production strategy of the fabric and raw materials.
The minister was addressing a meeting to review progress of the Muslin Technology Reviving Project at the department of botany in Rajshahi University (RU).
Protik said the government had obtained a geographical indicator (GI) tag from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to claim Muslin as a Bangladeshi product, a news agency reported.
The government has developed a research field for ‘Phuti karpas’ cultivation in the Rajshahi University campus to get cotton fabric of legendary lightness, he said.
