Indus Group, a sourcing company and maker of apparel textiles, and biotechnology startup Applied DNA Sciences have inked a five-year licensing and commercial deal for the first widespread implementation of CertainT as a cotton traceability platform. As per the deal, Indus would receive Applied DNA’s CertainT platform for non-residential cotton products like clothes, accessories, and shoes. These goods will be produced at Indus facilities in Jordan, Egypt, and Pakistan, utilizing cotton sourced from all over the world.
The parties intend to deploy the CertainT platform at a number of cotton spinning mills during the first year of the agreement. A larger rollout is anticipated, contingent upon Indus’s projections for tagged cotton. “We have a partner that can tag cotton with globally sourced cotton year-round for the first time,” stated Dr. James A. Hayward, president and CEO of Applied DNA. This is also the first significant rollout of CertainT that has been impacted by the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). We anticipate that the UFLPA will grow this market and direct our sales strategy toward further clothing and textile producers. We look forward to a fruitful and long-lasting collaboration with Indus.
“Innovation and product development are central to our corporate values and growth goals,” stated Abid Hafeez, CEO of Indus. Forensic cotton traceability and supply chain security from yarn to completed goods are introduced by CertainT, guaranteeing UFLPA compliance for shipments to the US.
