India and Italy conduct discussions to deepen their economic and trade ties.

As Union minister Piyush Goyal and Antonio Tajani, Italy’s deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation in the foreign office, discussed how the relationship can be leveraged for growth across a variety of sectors, bilateral trade and economic partnership negotiations between India and Italy have advanced. During his two-day trip to Italy, Goyal spent time in Rome.

According to a news release from India’s ministry of commerce and industry, both ministers expressed delight during the meeting about the advancement of the bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership in the wake of the recent official visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to India.

The strong rise in bilateral commerce between India and Italy, which has reached over $16 billion, was also noted as a source of satisfaction by both ministers. in 2022 and decided to make it bigger. Tajani received an update from Goyal on the status of the FTA discussions between India and the EU. The ministers expressed their desire for a swift conclusion and emphasised the significance of securing a free, equitable, and balanced FTA. Additionally, they agreed to hold the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation’s (JCEC) subsequent session in Rome during the final week of September 2023.Tajani urged enhancing the parliamentary friendship group diplomacy between the two countries’ parliaments and looking into the possibility of engaging in a cyber dialogue. Tajani was informed of India’s G-20 priorities by Goyal, who also invited Tajani to attend the G20 Trade Ministers Meeting in India in August 2023.

Goyal placed a focus on strengthening bilateral collaboration in the to attain sustainability and lessen the negative effects of climate change, the sector of clean energy is necessary. According to him, affluent nations should make affordable climate money and technology available to underdeveloped nations so they can effectively combat climate change
