As part of its WelKrishi programme, Indian textile producer Welspun has pledged to provide cotton farmers in its supply chain with access to capital and sustainable business training.
The corporation claims the initiative underpins its commitment to environmental and social responsibility, and it is focusing on cotton production due to the massive amounts of water required to create the material.
“Sustainable cotton farming is the key to unlocking a radical transformation across the textile value chain in the interest of environmental conservation while lifting millions of people out of poverty by providing a more stable income and improved working conditions,” said Dipali Goenka, CEO of Welspun India.
