The Department of Fashion and Design Technology at Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur is experiencing a surge in demand for its one-year diploma course in fashion and textile design. With students from diverse academic backgrounds, including postgraduates and retirees, joining the program, the department is witnessing a rise in applications, far exceeding the available seats. Professor Dolly Mogra, the head of the department, emphasises the value of artistic thinking in fashion education.

The program not only aims to provide foundational knowledge in apparel construction and textile design but also opens doors to entrepreneurial opportunities in the fashion industry. Recent graduates like Nitin have successfully launched their own brands, crediting the course for enhancing both their skills and creative thinking. Additionally, the department’s hands-on approach, collaborating with local artisans and promoting sustainable fashion, ensures students gain practical experience while immersing themselves in Rajasthani culture. Plans to establish partnerships with foreign fashion universities are in the pipeline to showcase Mewar fashion globally.
