Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently said Gorakhpur would be developed as a textile hub by bringing it under the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) scheme, which in turn would generate local employment. The state government is also planning to set up a big training centre there, he told representatives from the Chamber of Industries of Gorakhpur.

Apart from boosting the readymade garments industry in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the initiative will employ migrant workers who have returned to the state from various locations during the lockdown, Yogi was quoted as saying by media reports from the state.

According to a survey, about 12,000 migrant workers associated with the textile industry have returned to Gorakhpur and its adjoining districts during the lockdown.
