A fire that started Friday night in the machinery at Hanes Dye and Finishing plant at 600 W. Northwest Blvd. caused $30,000 in damage, authorities said Saturday. No injuries were reported.

The fire was caused by conducted heat in the plant’s operating equipment, said Division Chief Darryl Sawyer of the Winston-Salem Fire Department. Lint build-up in a tenter-frame machine was a factor, he said.

A total of 11 city fire trucks responded to the fire that began shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, authorities said. The fire moved into the ventilation ducks and onto the roof.

It took firefighters several hours to put out the fire. The Hanes Dye and Finishing Co., which was founded in 1924, provides dyeing and finishing products and services. It is a subsidiary of Hanes Cos. Inc.
