India’s garment exports fall to $15.50 bn in 2019-20: TEA.

India’s total garment exports declined by 4.08 per cent to Rs.1,09,844 crore ($15.50 billion) in fiscal 2019-20 compared to Rs.1,12,828 crore ($16.16 billion) in the previous fiscal, according to the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), which said knitwear exports in 2019-20 fell to Rs.53,199 crore ($7.51 billion) against Rs.54,692 crore ($7.82 billion) in 2018-19.

TEA president Raja M Shanmugham told the association’s annual general meeting recently that export of textiles and textile products from Tamil Nadu was worth Rs.50,192 crore in fiscal in 2019-20 out of total manufactured product exports of Rs.2,12,863 crore—a share of 23.6 per cent, whereas, the total knitted garments exports from the state was worth Rs.27,780 crore, having a share of 13 per cent.

Tiruppur’s knitwear exports decreased to Rs.27,280 crore in 2019-20 against Rs.27,650 crore recorded in 2018-19.

Delhi, Haryana and Karnataka held the second, third and fourth position in knitwear exports, with figures of Rs.5,284 crore, Rs.4,227 crore and Rs.2,823 crore respectively, said a TEA press release.

TEA expects the Tiruppur garment cluster’s exports to reach around Rs.24,000 crore in the current fiscal.
