In a significant development for landowners displaced by the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) in Warangal, the Telangana government has approved the construction of 863 houses. These houses will be built under the State Reserve Quota (SRQ) of the ‘Indiramma Indlu’ scheme, with each unit receiving a grant of ₹5 lakh.
The decision comes after a proposal was submitted by the Warangal District Collector to the Telangana Housing Corporation Limited (TGHCL), highlighting the urgent need for rehabilitation measures for the affected landowners. Recognizing the unique circumstances of these individuals, the government relaxed certain eligibility criteria to accommodate them.
To ensure the timely implementation of the project, the Department of Transport, Roads and Buildings (TR&B) issued an official order (G.O. No. 40) on Saturday. The Managing Director of TGHCL and the Warangal District Collector have been tasked with overseeing the project.
During a visit to the 1,200-acre textile park in June, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasised the importance of providing essential amenities to the displaced families. He directed officials to ensure that the housing layout includes adequate roads, power supply, water supply, and waste management facilities.
The KMTP, a massive infrastructure project, was initiated by former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in October 2017. Over the past five years, approximately 1,000 farmers from villages like Chinthapally have voluntarily relinquished their land to facilitate the park’s development.
This latest government initiative aims to provide a sustainable solution for the displaced landowners and ensure their well-being as the textile park continues to shape the region’s industrial landscape.
