The textile belt of Tamil Nadu consists of many small and large textile manufacturers. What unites them is the manufacturing of cotton and the disposal of the waste generated during the processing. Over 200 small mill owners have come together to find solutions for the waste generated and have come up with the concept of recycling cotton waste into substrates like yarn and fabrics. Together, they have formed a Recycle Textile Federation Jayabal which has its headquarters in Coimbatore.

The Federation currently has 230 members from different mills across the state. The current postholders are all elected for their posts, namely: vice-president Sathyaseelan; Secretary, Manoharas; joint secretary, Raghu; and treasurer, Ranganathan.

The federation is going to focus on creating market and consumer-awareness amongst its members, which will help them in getting good prices for their products. Moreover, the federation is also planning on uniting a greater number of such mills all over the nation to work together and effectively provide towards the needs of the industry, identify potential markets globally, and make their services available wherever they are needed.

Speaking about recycling, there are over 400 mills in the Tamil Nadu cluster will focus and practice on recycling cotton waste as well as PET bottles and convert them into useful products like yarns. Out of these, around 180 mills lie in the Tirupur-Coimbatore belt itself. The federation aims at unifying the work of all these small mills and coordinate their activities to give a better output in the recycling sector.
