The Walmart Foundation, the retail conglomerate’s philanthropic arm, has provided a US$2 million, 3-year grant to the Soil Health Institute’s US Regenerative Cotton Fund (USRCF) to help scale the programme and further expand its services to Alabama and South Carolina.
This cotton fund was launched last year and is a farmer-facing, science-based initiative established to support long-term, sustainable cotton production in the United States, with the goal of eliminating one million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) from the atmosphere by 2026, in lines with its sustainable development goals.
Kathleen McLaughlin, the Walmart Foundation’s president, said, “We are excited to support this ambitious project to support farmers with the resources and tools they need to adopt more regenerative systems and accurately measure the outcomes of these practices for their land and livelihoods.”
