Manufactured fibre (MMF) textile exports from India are predicted to increase significantly, rising from US $6.5 billion in 2021–2022 to US $11.4 billion by 2030, a 75 percent increase. According to sources, the boost is credited to the deliberate execution of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and strengthened trade agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Australia.

India, which is ranked second in the world for MMF manufacturing, is looking to increase its exports of goods like curtains, drapes, interior blinds, and other commodities based on synthetic fibres, which economists believe will be major contributors to this country’s exponential growth.

A government representative praised technology textiles as the industry’s future and underlined their growing potential. Encouraged by audacious goals, the industry is ready to grow.

Because of its inherent benefits, MMF has surpassed natural fibres to now account for 72% of the world’s usage of textile fibre. India intends to increase exports to countries such the United States, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Brazil, where it now owns a 5% share in MMF textile exports, in order to strengthen its position in the market. It is keeping a close watch on new markets such as Vietnam, Japan, China, and Poland.

The plan also calls for expediting the processing of fabrics derived from synthetic filament yarn and increasing the production capacity of woven and knitted fabrics.

The benefits of textiles produced of synthetic fibres were emphasised by Bhadresh Dodhia, head of the Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council. He mentioned the textiles’ affordability, environmental friendliness, and potential for significant value addition. He positioned them as a sustainable substitute by stressing how little water they require in comparison to cotton textiles.
