Vadodara: When performing their duties, frontline forces such as security guards, body guards, coastal guards, police, and army personnel should expect lightweight, easy-to-wear, cost-effective, and fire-resistant body armour. Researchers at MS University’s department of applied science, part of the college of technology and engineering, have created stab/ slash resistance materials that are not only protective of their bodies but also pleasant and easy to wear. The body armours that are now available are rather heavy, expensive, and frequently troublesome for security staff. Body armour is available today in sophisticated plastics or Kevlar (para-aram id).

THE FORCES ARE BEING GUARDED

  • Body armours presently available are heavy, expensive, and uncomfortable for battle field troops. • MSU scientists have created polymeric fabric using Kevlar and glass fabric.
  • The fabric composition makes it lightweight and flexible.
  • Instead of 4.5-6.5 kg, weight of body weapons and armor can be reduced to 3-3.5 kg.
  • A newly designed synthetic fabric is being evaluated for its resistance to stab/slash attacks.
